Dr. Caiyong Wang won the nomination award of ICB best paper and the champion of SSBC scleral segmentation competition

On June 6, the 12th IAPR International Biometric Conference (ICB2019) was held in Crete, Greece. Researcher Zhenan Sun, Dr. Caiyong Wang and Dr. Min Ren of our center attended the conference. Dr. Caiyong Wang's work on sclera segmentation entitled “ScleraSegNet: an improved U-Net Model with Attention for Accurate Sclera Segmentation” and Min Ren's work on iris recognition entitled “Alignment Free and Distortion Robust Iris Recognition” were accepted by the conference, which highlights the deep foundation and international status of our center in the field of biometric recognition, especially in the field of eye circumference and iris recognition technology. Dr. Caiyong Wang's paper “ScleraSegNet: an improved U-Net Model with Attention for Accurate Sclera Segmentation” proposes to use attention mechanism to improve the U-Net model, and obtains the state-of-the-art performance on multiple sclera segmentation datasets. At the same time, the improved version based on the proposed method won the championship in SSBC2019 Sclera Segmentation Competition. This method provides a good basis for exploring the recognition of scleral morphology. This paper was accepted as an oral paper by the conference, and was awarded the IAPR 2019 best paper nomination award.
