Tieniu Tan was selected as Corresponding Member of Brazil Academy of Sciences

Brazilian Academy of Sciences (BAS) lately held the 100th anniversary celebration in Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, BAS announced the result of newly elected members during the year 2015. Tieniu Tan, a researcher in CRIPAC, elected as Corresponding Member of BAS. This is another great award for Chinese scientists. Before that, Chunli Bai, the Present of Chinese Academy of Sciences and mathematics and Academician Yaxiang Yuan, Academy of mathematics and Systems Science were awarded with the honor in 2014.

Tieniu Tan is the well-known expert in pattern recognition and computer vision. In 2013, Tan was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. A year later, Tan were elected as International Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) respectively.

The Brazilian Academy of Sciences was founded in May 1916 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, covering a number of fields such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Biological Medicine, Health Science, Engineering Science and Social Science. There are 3 kind of Members in BAS, Full Member for Brazilian scholars and foreign scholars living in Brazil for more than 10 years who have made outstanding scientific achievements, Corresponding Member for foreign scholars who have made great scientific achievements and contributions to scientific development of Brazil, collaborating member for people who devoted greatly to science and BAS.
