Mr. Peihao Huang won ICPR 2014 Best Student Paper

On the  22nd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), Peihao Huang, a Master candidate from the Multi-Modal Computing Group, received the IBM Best Student Paper Award on the track of Computer Vision for the paper “Deep Embedding Network for Clustering” by Peihao Huang, Yan Huang, Wei Wang and Liang Wang. ICPR is an influential international forum for discussions on advances in the fields of Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning and Computer Vision, and applications of them in various fields. The awarded paper proposed a clustering method based on the structure of the Deep AutoEncoder. It exploited the non-linear mapping of the Deep Neural Network and projected the original data into a clustering-oriented space with a local preserving and a sparse constraint. The proposed method improved the accuracy of clustering on several image datasets.
